since my episode flair up of my hip displasia (which really hurts a lot) I have been confined to my small bed and no running or jumping, it's even painful to sit down at times. Thanks to my vet I got some medicine and much needed rest and was well enough to attend a bbq this Saturday with my parents and their best friends who have known me since I was a pup. I had so much fun that I've been sleeping ever since...


that's my dad cooking burgers he didn't know but mommy snuck me a bite of her burger!

I love you too Aunt Gaby but I really just want you to put that plate down so that I can snag a bite to eat

Macbeth and I have been accused of being "citified"...translation- forgetting that I came from the country. However, I must admit that Macbeth has grown up a sophisticated city dog and doesn't really know any other life so to tap into our "country" roots, we visit the Cornfield located in the out skirts of China Town. There we can frolic in the weeds and soak up the fresh LA air as well as harass the billy goats and chickens.

Everyone knows how much happiness my frenchie brings to me but I had no idea that my little Macbeth could bring so much happiness to a total stranger. Every morning around 7:45 a.m. Macbeth I head out on our morning walk about downtown. We take off down 9th street past Hill, on any given day there will be about 10-15 people, mostly men, standing outside waiting to go inside the building. Usually I am running late in the morning and there is always someone that cattle calls or whistles at Macbeth and he can't resist, he wants attention from everyone. Annoyingly, I tug on the leash to distract him so that we can just go about our business but on this particular morning, a nice man standing in line and stopped me to ask if he could pet my dog, "sure" I said. He plays and pets him and of course Macbeth just rolls over and exposes his belly. He then goes to the next guy in line looking for some attention but he wasn't going for it. I always try to "explain" to Macbeth that not everyone wants to pet him but he doesn't want to listen.

2 Weeks went by and we didn't see the man I didn't really think anything about it. Finally one morning we hear this voice "Macbeth! Come here buddy!" It was our friend (I couldn't believe he remembered his name), we stopped and I said "how are you?, it's been a while, we haven't seen you" He said "well you know just trying to make it all happen". He said to me that he had been waiting in this line for weeks and no luck. The line he had been waiting in was the unemployment line. As he played with Macbeth he told me his name was Howard and that he had been out of work for over a year and that thought of seeing Macbeth made waiting in that unemployment line a lot less dreadful.

He said thank you to me and I said good luck to him as we parted ways. In that moment I realized that the happiness our pets bring us is expected but the happiness that our pets bring to others may be that of hope.

My little Macbeth is such a city dog that when we actually take him out into the "country" he does not know how to act. This was our weekend trip up to the mountain of Big Bear and it took some time for him to get adjusted to the snow...

I wanted to start a feature of "streetstylish" pets and owners and I didn't have to go far for my first subject. Today my friend and stylist Emilie Pereira stopped by my office with her cute new pup appropriately named Karl Dogerfeld.

desire to inspire

While doing my many blog searches every morning when drinking my coffee, I came across this great interior design blog called Desire to Inspire. Every Monday they have a feature called "pets on furniture" and being the stage mom that I am, I just had to get Macbeth a spot in next feature. The lovely Kim was patient enough to adjust the picture for me in photoshop and on Nov.16 my little Macbeth made onto the Australian design blog. I was so proud!

once upon a time...

It was the Christmas of 2005 when I received the most special gift of my life. It all started when my husband and I were dating, he had told me in the first week that he had always wanted a dog...I thought to myself "oh how sad, he has never had a dog before" not the case. He didn't want just any dog, it had to be a french bulldog, cute I thought a little frenchie. It had to be a black frenchie...with a white belly, "that looks like a tuxedo" he said, "and his name will be Macbeth because my last name is Duncan and in Shakespeare's Macbeth they are best friends. Now, I don't remember much about Shakespeare but from what I recall Macbeth kills Duncan??? I never thought twice about it because once we started living together our lives were so busy, we lived in small loft in downtown LA, I was working 2 jobs and going to school and he was working nights at the railroad and part-time in retail. who has time for a dog right? Oh but then came Saturday December 17th when we took an unexpected road trip to Perris not Paris, it was there that I fell in love with another man. We pulled up at a small house and a woman opens the door wearing a house robe, socks and bedroom slippers. She invites us in, the smell of dog was overwhelming. I had been pre-warned that we "I" were looking at puppies but even up until this moment I was NOT overly excited at the idea. Betty Joe, the breeder, steps outside and amongst all the barking and chaos she scoops up this tiny little black ting that vaguely resembles a rabbit. She closes the door and sets him on the floor and says "well here he is, he's the last to go". I picked him up and cuddled him, he was shakey and scared. I had a bad cold that day and I was worried that he would catch my cold, she re-assured me that he would be fine and not get my cold. The whole way back to LA I held him like a newborn baby, and like a child that had been adopted, I couldn't stop feeling guilty for taking him away from his parents. That first night set the premise for the future. He cried the whole time in the crate and I couldn't handle it so I picked him up and put him in our bed and the rest is history. To this day, Macbeth still sleeps in our bed and I wouldn't have it any other way. I would have never thought that something that snores like a 70 yr. old man and farts like a frat boy would steal my heart. These are the tales and adventures of the Duncan and Macbeth
